Also, the collection of used glassware around the fire pit and tables is very unattractive. Most guests who sat down were unsure if there was wait staff. Drink and or food service on the outside back porch area would be very desirable as many people congregate out there to enjoy the fresh air. The chicken pot pie at dinner was one of the better meals that we had in Manchester. Breakfast service was prompt and the food was very good. Hopefully, the number of waitstaff will increase with the state's approval to open the capacity of hotels to 100%. The staff in the dining room were working extremely hard to meet the needs of all of the guests. To further enhance the cleanliness of the rooms, it would be very helpful if there were housekeeping stations where as a guest, you could pick up fresh towels, toiletries and dispose of trash (instead of trying to locate a housekeeper). State restrictions prevent housekeeping staff from entering the guest's rooms during their stay. There is a person on the front desk but they are usually busy taking care of billing etc. State laws prevent the use of bellman handling luggage, but do not prevent someone from being in the reception area to usher guests in. As this is likely the first hotel experience during the pandemic for many guests, it would very beneficial to have someone on site at the front door, providing a friendly greeting and guidance, as to how you will check in. There are certainly areas that do need improvement: Upon arrival to the hotel, there is no one to welcome, or direct you. Unlike the other reviewers, our room was clean and the mattress was very comfortable. Our impressions were that COVID precautions were observed by the staff and guests at the hotel. If you love historic hotels, with expansive grounds and spectacular views of the mountains, then considering staying at the Equinox.
The hotel is a grand old lady who needs uplifting in various areas. My husband and I have stayed at the Equinox several times in the past 30 years, under various management companies.
